Lotte Glob Artist & Sculptor

Twice in the past week, people have mentioned the name Lotte Glob to me. The first time I saw a postcard of a vase that looked uncannily like a goose from a distance, perched high on Suilvan, a spectacular mountain in Sutherland. The second time was yesterday when a friend mentioned visiting her studio at the Balnakeil Craft Village just outside Durness.
Lotte Glob does some fantastic sculptures for gardens and homes, but to me the most fascinating work is the ultimate rock garden. This is a project where a sculpture is taken away into the hills and photographed in spectacular scenery before finally being left to it's fate high on a mountainside. Lotte uses materials, rocks and clay, found in the mountains, sculpts them into their new form and leaves them up there, so no issues with littering hillsides should arise. I think her studio is open April-October, but the website is there year round for you to explore the work.

Times Blog of the Week - 5th Nov 05

Many thanks to Margaret who dropped me an email to let me know that The Times listed Orwell Gallery as their Blog of the Week last Saturday.

According to The Times, I blog:
"on materials, painting supplies and art-related thoughts, as well as posting short-but- sweet missives promoting art exhibitions, galleries and websites. His commentary is wry and funny, too."
I'm really chuffed, I never get mentions like this in the press.

The thing is, I can't find a paper copy of The Times from Sat 5th November anywhere, and I'd love to cut out the page and keep it. Does anyone have a copy that they haven't recycled yet? I think it would be in the Entertainment section > Online Arts. Please email me at adam@scotland24.co.uk if you do. Many thanks.

I'm off to tell my mum!

UPDATE: A lovely lady at the University of Toronto has found a copy of it for me. Thanks to everyone who had a look.

James Somerville - Scottish Artist

I was contacted today by James Somerville, a Scottish artist of some standing. I had seen and enjoyed his work in the past and it was lovely today to be able to delve through the James Somerville website and see his recent work. James does not clutter the website with text, instead allowing the images to do the talking. There is an information page at the end of the site linking to some of the many galleries where you can view his work.
The painting above was my favourite from the site: "East Neuk Houses". So much power comes into the painting from the dark sky with the almost pastel coloured foreground, it really took my breath away.
If you've not come across this work before, it really is well worth a look.
