It has to be said, this is not the first painting I've done of the beach at Sandwood Bay. Sandwood lies about 6 miles from Cape Wrath at the north-west tip of Sutherland. Most people who go there don't forget it in a hurry. A four mile walk from the nearest road takes you into this often deserted, and certainly very special beach.
In the painting I've been trying to bring as many colours as possible into the beach whilst keeping it loose and block-like to try and convey perhaps a slight sense of drama, and perhaps a sense of what a wild place you are in.
Anyway, it's one of may favourite beaches in Scotland and one that I'll doubtless paint again.
